Golf Head Coach Harry Jennings Earns Wilmington’s First East Region Coach of the Year Honor

For the first time in the NCAA era for the Wilmington University Athletics Department, Harry Jennings earned the status of East Region Coach of the Year as awarded by the Golf Coaches Association of America in conjunction with the Eaton Corporation last week.

In addition, six coaches were announced the six outstanding collegiate golf coaches receiving the Dave Williams Award presented by Eaton Golf Pride as national coaches of the year. Jennings was also nominated for the Division II Dave Williams Award for his effort and leadership through the 2012-13 season.

Jennings led the Wildcats to their third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship by beating the field by 18 strokes. After the team’s top rated golfer according to Golfstat.com dropped out of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournament due to a leg injury suffered during the practice round, Jennings motivated his team to the top of the leaderboard after each of the first two rounds. The Wildcats finished second overall in the Super Regional, earning a trip to their third straight NCAA Division II National Tournament.

The Wildcats had the CACC Rookie of the Year in Andreas Lunding while PJ Tighe and Andrew Baldo also earned All-CACC honors. Tighe captured the CACC Tournament individual championship while Jerry Temple and Lunding were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Jennings was named the CACC Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. In addition, Lunding was named Division II PING All-East Region as a freshman.

The team finished 15th, its best among the three trips, at the 2013 NCAA Division II National Tournament held at the Hershey Country Club.

Eaton’s Golf Grip Division is the world’s largest manufacturer of golf grips, with manufacturing, sales and distribution facilities on five continents.
