One hundred and thirty-six scholarships were announced for the 2013-14 academic years to deserving Wilmington University students. A ceremony was held in their honor on June 11, 2013 at Wilmington University’s third annual Scholarships and Awards Ceremony in the auditorium of the Audrey K. Doberstein Admissions Center on the New Castle Campus. Dr. Tina Barksdale, Assistant Vice President of Alumni Relations and Student Affairs, welcomed the 44 scholarship recipients in attendance along with 156 of their families and friends.

Dr. Jack P. Varsalona, Wilmington University president, congratulated the well-deserving students on earning the scholarships, which are based on both financial need and academic excellence.

His congratulatory remarks were followed with a presentation of the scholarships by the six Wilmington University Colleges: College of Arts & Sciences, College of Business, College of Education, College of Health Professionals, College of Social & Behavioral Sciences, and College of Technology.  Members of the Scholarship Selection Committee presenting the awards were Sally Healy, Director, Academic Advising and Student Success Center; Dr. Bonnie Kirkpatrick, Sr. Director, Faculty Development and Support; Jeff Martino, Manager, Undergraduate Admissions; Andrew Stratton, Academic Advisor; and Misty Williams, Manager, Graduate Admissions. Alice Houck, incoming president of the Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountant presented The Delaware’s Society of CPA’s Scholarship for Academic Achievement.

The scholarships awarded were made possible through donations from businesses, alumni, and friends of the University. Money is also raised through annual fundraising events including the Green and White Scholarship Ball, the Wilmington University Scholarship Golf Classic and the Faculty and Staff Proud Donor Campaign.
