Wilmington Men’s Cross Country Earned USTFCCCA Division II Cross Country All-Academic Team Award

The Wilmington University men’s cross country team not only got it done on the course in 2013, but have also performed admirably in the classroom by being named one of the 2013 USTFCCCA Division II Cross Country All-Academic Teams.

The men had their best year to date in competitions this past fall, earning a third place finish in the NCAA Division II East Region Meet to earn an automatic trip to Wilmington and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference’s first NCAA Division II National Championship meet. The Wildcats finished 30th at the National Meet.

In the classroom, the Wildcats earned a 3.30 team grade point average, easily earning a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic list. The Wildcats were among 92 men’s teams that earned All-Academic team honors for the 2013 season. Programs much have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or greater and scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet to qualify for the award. There were also 136 women’s teams named All-Academic.

Wilmington swept the CACC Championship, earning a record 15 points and placing all seven runners in the Top 15 to earn All-CACC. Richie Mitten was named the CACC Men’s Runner of the Year for capturing the CACC individual championship while Ken Fontal was named the CACC Men’s Rookie of the Year for placing fifth overall. Head coach Keith Jones earned the Men’s Coach of the Year honor for the second year in a row.

The Grand Valley State women and Adams State men’s teams have been named the USTFCCCA Division II Scholar Teams of the Year after winning the team national championship and being eligible for the All-Academic team award.
