Wilmington University’s 4th Annual Scholarship Golf Classic was a Life Changing Event!

On Thursday, May 15th scores of golfers, alumni, staff, and sponsors gathered at the picturesque Deerfield Golf Course for the 4th Annual Scholarship Golf Classic.  This special event is held every year to raise money for student scholarships, which enable selected students to receive financial assistance towards a quality education at Wilmington University.

The event proved to be a beautiful day full of golf, networking, laughter, and of course, fundraising for tomorrow’s leaders.  Even the weather, which was forecasted to be rainy, cooperated and offered a sunny and pleasant environment for friendly competition.   After the last putt was sunk, all of the participants were invited into the ballroom for an elegant dinner and silent auction.  It was a perfect day, and many students’ lives were changed because of those who participated.

The student’s were not the only ones whose lives were changed, however.  Wilmington University’s own, Nick Papanicolas also had a pretty monumental day.  Nick, who works as the Head Soccer Coach for the Wilmington University Athletic Association, did the impossible – and it paid off royally!  Nick hit a hole in one on the courses second hole, winning him a three-year lease on a brand new Jeep Wrangler and two thousand dollars!  This incredibly difficult and rare occurrence took everyone, including Nick, by surprise!  The shot sent a shockwave of excitement and celebration throughout the entire course as people gathered to congratulate him on the shot of a lifetime.  The shot, which was fully verified and documented, is a first for Nick, and the University.  Little did he know, when he loaded his cart that morning that he was about to experience a dream that a vast majority of golfers will never realize!

It was a great day all around, and one that will not soon be forgotten, either by Nick or by the many students that will gain far more than a new vehicle --- a quality education.  This day was a success, and it was only possible because of the hard work, passion, and benevolence of the WilmU staff, alumni, sponsors, and friends of the University.  Thank you for changing lives!
