Cyber Security Colloquium to be held at Wilmington University

October 2 event is open to anyone interested in cyber security and digital forensics.

Wilmington University will hold a cyber security colloquium (academic seminar) featuring retired Delaware State Police officer and CEO/founder of SUMURI LLC Steve Whalen, on Thursday, October 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the auditorium at the University’s Dover location.

The event is free of charge and open to anyone with an interest in cyber security and digital forensics. There is plenty of free parking at the site.

Whalen will present his a thorough outline of cyber crime today, the challenges facing those involved in digital forensics and some possible solutions for the future. 

Whalen has developed and delivered forensic training to thousands of investigators and examiners around the world through organizations such as the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists (IACIS), the High Technology Crimes International Association (HTCIA) and the US Department of State Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program. He also developed the successful Macintosh forensic survival courses and the popular PALADIN and RECON forensic software. 

In 2001, he helped to develop the first High Technology Crimes Unit in within the Delaware State Police, through which he processed digital evidence from thousands of electronic devices impacting hundreds of cases of  intrusion, financial crimes, child sexual exploitation, narcotics, stalking and homicide. He has provided training in North America, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Caribbean, Africa and Oceania over throughout his 17 years of experience in computer forensics. 

Currently, Whalen is working on a worldwide humanitarian project aimed at drastically reducing the sexual exploitation of children through his mission, NO MORE VICTIMS.
