Wilmington University Will Offer Three Masters Degrees at New Jersey Locations

Wilmington University administrators announced today that the University would be offering three Masters degree programs at their New Jersey locations. The Masters programs, which are in the fields of Nursing and Education, will be available at the University’s Burlington County College and Cumberland County College locations.

Starting this fall New Jersey residents will have the opportunity to enroll in the Master of Education in School Leadership at the University's Burlington location. Next year (in the fall of 2011) students at the University's Cumberland location will also have the chance to enroll in the an education graduate program too, this time the University will offer the Master of Education in Elementary Special Education degree program. Both programs are NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education) certified and can be accessed in multiple formats including face-to-face, online, and hybrid to enable greater student flexibility. Candidates for the M.Ed. in School Leadership must provide evidence of successful work experience in education or a closely related field while students enrolled in the M.Ed. in Special Education will be seeking certification in the area.

Also this fall Wilmington University will offer the Master of Science in Nursing program to students at Cumberland County College with plans to offer the MSN to Burlington students in early 2011. Additionally, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a program that has been very popular at Cumberland, will be extended to Burlington County College in the fall of 2011. The Master of Science in Nursing is a program designed to prepare professional nurses for roles in advanced practice and will be available in two tracks: Nursing Educator and Nursing Executive. Since most of the students who enroll in this program are working professionals, the program will be offered in a hybrid format with approximately half of the classes meeting in the traditional classroom setting and half of the class activities online.

Additionally Wilmington University will be expanding their undergraduate programs in New Jersey in the coming years. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing, which has been a popular program at the Cumberland location, will now be coupled with a Master of Nursing program giving New Jersey residents the opportunity earn both degrees all in one location.

“As Wilmington University continues to expand our offerings in New Jersey, we pledge to stay committed to the wants and needs of our students and the citizens and employers of southern New Jersey,” said University president Dr. Jack Varsalona, "We have had longstanding partnerships with the community colleges in the area and we look forward to taking our partnerships to the next level. "

These new program options will be an added convenience to those students who may be commuting to class. “Many of our Master of Education in School Leadership students either work or live in New Jersey,” said Dean of the College of Education at Wilmington University, Dr. John Gray. “Options for those students to take some or all of their School Leadership classes at the BCC Mt. Laurel campus should make that degree program much more accessible to New Jersey educators, and may also attract additional New Jersey students to the program.”

Wilmington University began offering degree completion programs at three New Jersey community colleges (Burlington County College, Cumberland County College and Salem Community College) in the fall of 2007. This was the first time in history that the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education had granted licensure to an out-of-state college to offer degree programs and courses in New Jersey.

The initiative garnered a lot of interest from New Jersey residents with over 400 students enrolling in Wilmington University courses at the three locations in just the first year. Students can choose from a variety of undergraduate degrees in fields like Psychology, Nursing, Criminal Justice, Human Resource Management and more.
