Wilmington University Alumna Gina Rexrode Nominated as Finalist in MLB Campaign to Celebrate Teachers

Finalist needs online votes to win and represent the Phillies at the 2014 MLB All-Star Game pre-game ceremony.

Wilmington University alumna Gina Rexrode was selected as one of 90 finalists for The Major League Baseball (MLB) and Target, Inc. present PEOPLE Magazine's All-Star Teachers 2014 campaign. Thousands of teachers competed to become one of the 90 finalists, which equates to three finalists for each MLB team.

As one of three finalists to represent the Philadelphia Phillies at the 2014 All-Star game at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gina is looking for 300,000 votes from colleagues, students, churches, business associates, friends and family to secure her position as one of the thirty winners who will represent their Major League Baseball teams. One finalist will be featured in PEOPLE magazine.

All votes need to be in by June 29, 2014.

Gina received a bachelor’s degree in education and a Master of Education degree as a specialist in reading from Wilmington University. She is currently teaching at Leasure Elementary School in Bear, Delaware. Gina has also been nominated for the Delaware “Teacher of the Year” award four times.

“I am super excited!" Gina said when asked about her nomination for the campaign. "It's an honor and I appreciate that MLB is recognizing the teaching profession. It is really a remarkable experience.”

This campaign is one of the elements of the MLB, Target and People’s effort to celebrate teachers and raise awareness about the importance of education. Out of thousands of Classroom All-Stars, the field has been narrowed to 90 finalists -- 3 finalists for each MLB team.
