Test Goals & Objectives

The DSX ID Card/Access Control System has become a vital part of our security process within the University. Currently, New Castle, Wilson Graduate Center, Dover, Brandywine and the Athletic Campuses have designated exterior doors that are access controlled by the DSX System. In an effort to more effectively utilize the systems capabilities and add greater levels of security, “HARD LOCKDOWN READERS” have been installed at designated locations in each University Building on all primary campuses (listed above).

The “HARD LOCKDOWN READERS” is designed to lock down all doors on all buildings – not permitting access. When activated, no issued Wilmington University ID Card will grant access to access controlled doors. In essence, the doors will be locked down, effectively sealing off buildings to persons attempting to enter. Only University Safety Constables and designated personnel are authorized to activate/deactivate the system.

The HARD LOCKDOWN READERS work independently on each campus and control all access controlled doors within that site. Example, if a HARD LOCKDOWN READER is activated in any building on the New Castle Campus, all access controlled doors on all buildings (site specific) would immediately lock down. However, the doors at all other Wilmington University Campuses would not be affected. The HARD LOCKDOWN READER has to be activated at the campus where the incident occurs and only affects those buildings within that site.

DSX ID Card/Access Control Hard Lockdown System Testing Dates

On the testing dates, designated University Safety, Security Instruments, and Maintenance Personnel will be at the campuses - supervising and actively participating in the testing process. In conjunction with DSX Hard Lockdown System testing, University Safety Personnel will be trained on the system and how to properly respond if an “actual” emergency were to occur.

Upon activation of the DSX Hard Lockdown Reader on the test dates, the system will immediately send an “alert text and email message” to all Members of the Emergency Response Team (and designated back up members), University Safety, selected members of the Maintenance Staff, Site Directors, Allied Universal Supervisors, and Security Instruments advising the system has been activated in a “test mode.”  NO EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM OR NON-PARTICIPATING MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO RESPOND TO ANY CAMPUS – simultaneous testing the “text and email messaging” system.

Included in the testing will be activation of the system, alarms and emergency messages sounded BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE BUILDINGS THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS on the PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM and informational messages provide by participating members of University Safety Team (example audio above).

At the conclusion of the test, the campus will be notified through the PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM.

Our intent is to keep the testing time period/duration as short as possible.
