Blackboard Service Pack 11 Known Issues

YouTube videos

In the upgrade it looks like many YouTube videos have become “broken” and are not displaying:

Looking at the embed code (pressing the HTML button in the editor) shows that Bb has changed some of the information when it upgraded the course. You’ll need to visit the YouTube page for the original video and get the embed code again. You can pull out the YouTube ID and visit the original YouTube page for the video if you don’t still have it bookmarked.

e

You can paste the YouTube ID into a video URL on YouTube so you can get to the YouTube page of the video. Grab the embed code again by pressing Share then Embed at the bottom of the video on the YouTube page. (You can use either the “old” embed code or the HTML5 iframe code with the new Blackboard.)

Paste the embed code over the code that’s already in Blackboard and press update then submit. The videos should work again.

Broken Prezis

Prezis that were embedded in the old Bb are also now broken. Luckily that’s an easier fix. For embedded Prezi’s to work all URLs in the embed code need to be changed to secure links. (all that means is adding an “S” after “HTTP”)

Copy the embed code for the Prezi as normal:

e

When you paste it into Blackboard (using the HTML button in the editor) just add an S to any HTTP that you see in the embed code:

e

After that the Prezi should display as normal.
