Ceremony Guidelines and Procedures

Please note these essential points to ensure a safe and vibrant ceremony at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. Adhering to these rules will ensure the secure and meaningful celebration you deserve.

Update: September 14, 2021—we are implementing the following protocols to make you and your guests feel comfortable while attending graduation.

All participants will be required to:

  • Provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (Your final vaccine dose must have been received at least 14 days before commencement.), or
  • a negative COVID-19 test that was taken within 72 hours of commencement

When entering the Chase Center:

  • You will be asked to present a hard-copy or digital version of your vaccination card, or
  • A negative test result

Face Masks

  • Face masks are required for all commencement participants, regardless of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Upon Arrival at the Chase Center

  • Proceed through the security checkpoint and then to the check-in desk.

At Check-In

  • Honor cords will be provided to students awarded this designation.
  • Academic award-winners will receive their awards and certificates.
  • Doctoral students will receive their Tams.
  • All students will receive a large name card. Please hold on to this card. When it is your turn to walk across the stage, you will need to hold it up so the person at the podium can see it and announce your name.

After Check-In

  • You are expected be robed and ready to line-up. See the video How To Wear Your Graduation Regalia
  • You will be directed to your designated room for line-up.
  • Staff will direct you to proceed into the auditorium.

Inside the Auditorium

  • Your diploma cover will be on your chair. Please remember to bring it with you to the stage.
  • Marshals will notify you when it’s your turn to approach the stage.
  • Please do not shake hands with students and faculty. This is for your protection.

At the Stage

  • When you arrive at the top of the ramp that leads to the stage, please hold your name card with your name facing the person at the podium.
  • Once your name is announced, this is your moment to walk across the stage. Enjoy it!
  • When you reach the end of the stage, pause briefly for a picture.
  • Proceed down the ramp and back to your seat.

Leaving the Chase Center

  • As you leave the auditorium, you may proceed outdoors.
  • Please ask your family to meet you in a designated place outside.
  • A professional photographer will be available for pictures at designed areas outside the Chase. The photographers will be available at the following times:
    • 8:30–9:30 a.m.
    • 10:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
    • 1:30–3:15 p.m.
    • 4:15–5:30 p.m.
  • For the first time, we are thrilled to offer family photos! Simply tell the photographer you want pictures of you and your family. (You are under no obligation to purchase prints. The photographer will email you proofs, and you can decide to buy them.)
