Winter 2022 Commencement Postponed

Published: January 4, 2022

Due to the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in Delaware, it is with sadness that we are postponing all winter commencement ceremonies scheduled for Jan. 23, 2022. We plan to reschedule and will communicate that information as soon as possible.

As you may have heard, a surge in cases due to Delta, Omicron, and other variants has caused cases in Delaware to reach their highest numbers to date. As a result, Delaware Gov. John Carney recently announced a State of Emergency declaration to combat the expected increase in hospitalizations. In areas where cases have increased, the Centers for Disease and Control Prevention warn that large gatherings can increase the risk of infection and spread among attendees.

We believe that postponing your commencement ceremonies will help keep you and your loved ones safe, but it was a difficult and painful decision nonetheless. However, you have earned your degree despite overwhelming circumstances, and we could not be prouder of your accomplishments. We applaud your dedication and perseverance.

Please be assured that your degrees will be conferred upon receipt of final grades. As would be the case in any circumstance, your diplomas will be mailed promptly.

We wish you all the best and thank you for your patience and understanding.
