Biography

Dr. Leah Van Gelder is a graduate Advisor Coordinator for the College of Education & Liberal Arts at Wilmington University.  In addition to her advising role, Dr. Van Gelder supervises student interns for both the Year-Long and the traditional candidates.  Furthermore, her responsibilities also entail coaching students in the Wilmington University’s ARTC program. Leah has served on the Dispositions Interview committee for students entering the Teacher Preparation Clinical Studies.  Her contributions also include involvement with Virtual Open Houses, sitting on both the Clinical Studies and the graduate Advisory Committee.  Most recently Dr. Van Gelder is completing the Delaware Teacher Growth &Support System (DTGSS) Credentialing framework. 

Leah holds certifications in Elementary Education (Maryland, K-8 and Delaware) Leadership I and II, as well as Exceptional Children.  Dr. Van Gelder’s career includes a wide span of experiences from teaching in an inner-city school in Washington, D.C. kindergarten to high school.  She has presented at statewide conferences, in Delaware and Maryland counties on Gifted Education, served on the Delaware State Council for Gifted Education, nominated for finalist Teacher of year in her district, and accepted as a candidate in Rodel Foundation.
