Wilmington University Team Compete at 6th Annual Cyber Watch Mid-Atlantic Regional

Ten Wilmington University students will compete in the 6th Annual CyberWatch Mid-Atlantic Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) this week (March 10 through the 12th) at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab in Laurel, Maryland. After competing against 22 schools in the region, Wilmington University’s team was one of only eight schools that moved on to the Regional.

The three-day event will feature hacking scenarios for the students to crack, workshops on cyber security, information security, and online reputation management (and more). They will hear from guest speakers including Alan Greenberg, Tech Director, Cyber and Information Solutions at Boeing and Alan Paller, Founder and Research Director of the SANS Institute, and more. Additionally, students will learn about career opportunities in the field of cyber security and will attend a career fair and networking dinner.

“This is another great chance for our students to gain real-life exposure and connect the dots from all the things they have learned in the classroom,” said Mark Hufe, Computer and Network Security Program Chair at Wilmington University. “I am extremely proud of this team and all of our College of Technology students. They are really going above and beyond.”

If the Wilmington University team wins this round they will move on to compete in the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, April 8 through the 10th in San Antonio, Texas, against the winners from the eight other regional competitions.

Good luck to the Wilmington University student team!
