Wilmington University’s Online Course in the College of Education Recognized by the Blackboard Catalyst Award

Award recognizes outstanding development of community and best practices through innovative course design.

In collaboration with the College of Education and Sandra Bennett, an Instructional Designer in the Online Learning Department, MEE 7634 - Integrated Methods for Teaching Elementary Social Studies was recognized as an Exemplary Course in the 2014 Blackboard Catalyst Awards.

The Exemplary Course Award recognizes faculty and course designers from schools, colleges, and universities around the world who develop exciting and innovative courses that represent the best in technology and learning.

The award also highlights technologically rich, engaging, well designed, and pedagogically sound courses that showcase best practices for the user community. Over 200 entries were evaluated in a rigorous peer-review process by more than 300 faculty and instructional designers. Submissions were judged on the following components: course design; interaction and collaboration; assessment; and learner support.

Al DiEmedio, Director of Teacher Education Programs at Wilmington University, expressed his confidence in his choice of designer for the course: “Sandra was chosen to develop this course based on her previous experience in online course development, her understanding of the course components and her current content knowledge about elementary social studies education.”

Reflecting on the significance of the award, Sandra noted that, “This award represents the belief that online education can be done exceedingly well. We highly value giving online students at Wilmington University a clearly mapped, rich learning environment with many different ways to learn. It’s a testament to the mission at Wilmington University that we are committed to excellence in teaching, relevancy of the curriculum, and individual attention to students.”
