Wilmington University is Preparing Tomorrow’s Nurse Leaders

When a student graduates from one of the competitive Registered Nurse (RN) preparation programs in the region, and successfully completes the national licensure examination, they are prepared to embark upon a career in the demanding profession of nursing.  This is an admirable achievement. They acquired knowledge and gained practical skill to be successful in delivering comprehensive patient care. However, a registered nurse’s educational journey is only beginning. Wilmington University is the nurse’s gateway to furthering academic and professional success in the healthcare field. Continuing one’s education will offer increased opportunities within healthcare professions.  The College of Health Professions knows that expanded education will enhance the health of our communities and the profession of nursing.

Wilmington University offers a streamlined program that will take the licensed RN through the necessary curriculum to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).  The curriculum emphasizes our commitment to lifelong learning, where programs are innovative and viewed by the learner as relevant to healthcare practice. In addition, the College of Health Professions believes knowledge is best obtained when the learner actively participates in a “humanistic” educational process where faculty collaborate with the student to set goals, plan learning experiences, and evaluate achievement. Once a nurse professional attains baccalaureate education, they are equipped with enhanced communication and critical thinking skills, problem-solving within teams, and leadership ability. BSN graduates are prepared to meet client needs in a complex health setting, engage in career mobility, and pursue graduate education.

The Wilmington University RN to BSN program offers a flexible course of study that enables registered nurses to balance the challenges of work, personal, and educational commitments. Nurses can pursue their education on a part-time or full-time basis. The BSN program is offered in many formats including traditional, 100% online, and hybrid, so a nurse can continue to work while pursuing a nationally accredited degree.  Faculty serve as professional role models, facilitators of learning, and resource persons. Wilmington University and the College of Health Professions work to support the entire individual; ensuring academic rigor, yet sensitive to personal and professional demands.

Angie Tilton-Steele, Wilmington University BSN Program Chair, stated, “Our program is developed with a focus on preparing the registered nurse to mature into a skillful nurse leader.  We continually evaluate our curriculum to ensure that we are remaining timely with the ever-changing health care field, and we do so in a way that supports the nurse holistically.  We offer flexibility because we are fully aware that not everyone has the ability to leave the workforce for the sole purpose of advancing their education.”
