Wilmington University hosts Summer Camps for Middle School-Aged Students

The Division of Information Technology and Advanced Communication (iTAC) at Wilmington University will host three summer workshops for middle school-aged students interested in design and photography. The camps are aimed at fledgling artists ranging in age from 11 to age 15, and will be held at the New Castle campus, in the Peoples Library Building.

The first iTAC summer camp series was held last year and was a great success. Students learned about photography, Photoshop, drawing and painting, and video.

This year's summer workshop offerings include:

DSN095 Drawing and Painting
Develop aesthetics through focus with a variety of drawing and painting media and subject matter. Students will practice creative solutions in the context of visual awareness of line, texture, value, proportions, color and form. Materials will be included in the workshop. This is a non-credit course.
Dates: Summer 2008 July 7-11 (9am-4pm)
Instructor: Marietta Dantonio

TEC 095 Seeing Beyond Your Eyes: A Photographic Adventure
Venture into photography. Learn the basic use of the camera, composition, and critiquing images in a way to improve your photographic eye. Digital cameras and Photoshop will be used in this weeklong adventure. This is a non-credit course. Bring digital camera and memory card to class.
Dates: Summer 2008 July 14-18 (9am-4pm)
Instructor: Ed Coburn

DSN096 Explorations in Quilted Textile Design with Beading
Students will design and create an original wall hanging. From the first step of drawing the design on graph paper to adding the finishing touches using a variety of embellishment materials, students will use creative thinking skills and problem solving strategies to make a wall hanging that captures their personality and individualism. A variety of fabrics, materials and beads will be used. Students will also learn hand and machine sewing techniques and a variety of stitches used during embroidery, decorative stitching, and beading. This is a non-credit course.
Dates: Summer 2008 July 21-25 (9am-4pm)
Instructor: Meg Fillmore

The cost per workshop is $175 (plus a one-time $30.00 application fee).
