National Distance Learning Week 2015
Each year the Online Learning and Educational Technology Team works together to create a set of activities in celebration of National Distance Learning Week (NDLW). This year NDLW will run from November 9-13, 2015.
NDLW is sponsored by the United States Distance Learning Association. These activities engage our:
- Current students
- Staff members and those members of the community that are interested in learning more about Online Learning.
- Favorite Online Instructor
Prize: Two students will be picked at random to receive a $25 Visa Gift Card. Winner will be announced on Monday, November 16, 2015.

Activity description: Do you have a favorite instructor? Let us know by providing your input on a simple form. It will only take a few moments and you can make someone's day!
- COEL Online Info Session
Prize: Students who register and attend this information session will be entered into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card!

Activity description: The College of Online and Experiential Learning (COEL) connects the resources of online and experiential learning and assessment to provide additional opportunities for students to earn academic credits. Earn credits through prior learning, work experiences, and other forms of learning that are aligned with your degree program. This webinar was help on on November 10 at 2:00p.m. EST for an online information session!

National Distance Learning Week (NDLW) may be over, but the celebrations continue! Students who complete the CareerLink Scavenger Hunt will be entered to win one of four $25 gift cards! You must submit your entry by 11:59pm on Sunday, November 29, 2015. Winners will be selected on Monday, November 30, 2015.
How to Participate:
- Login to CareerLink.
- Find 2 Co-op jobs that fit your degree and interest.
- Using your best writing skills, explain in a short paragraph for each why those Co-op jobs are right for you. Send your response in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Prize: Students that enter will be entered to win an iPad Mini!

Activity description: Where do you study and do your school work? Do you connect on your phone or online while watching your favorite show? Do you do your schoolwork on your lunch break? We want to know! Send us a video of you doing your schoolwork and write where you WilmU.
- Assignment Contest
Prize: Students that enter will be entered to $50 Visa Gift Card. The winner of the $50 Visa Gift card will be chosen on Friday, November 13, 2015.
Entry details: Let us know what about the assignment challenged you and why you feel that you learned a lot. Email your response to email@example.com!
Activity description: Share the details of one assignment where you feel you learned the most. This may not have been the easiest assignment or even the one where you had the most fun. NDLW is a week to focus on our online students so please share. We know how much you all enjoy hearing from each other!
- The Blackboard Trivia Hour
On Tuesday, November 10 we hosted the first “Blackboard Trivia Hour”, where we illuminated the benefits of Blackboard by answering trivia questions! Participants that answered questions correctly were eligible for winning fantastic prizes including visa gift cards! In a show of skill and knowledge, Elizabeth Slater won our Blackboard Trivia Hour and took home her own gift card. Thank you once again to those who joined us this year and we hope to see you again during next year’s National Distance Learning Week!

- Faculty Spotlight
This year’s National Distance Learning Week has chosen to spotlight one of Wilmington University’s honored faculty, Dr. Lem Burnham.
Dr. Burnham holds a Ph.D. from Temple University; Master of Science degree from Bemidji State (Minnesota) University; and Bachelor of Arts degree at U.S. International University (California Western College - School of Human Behavior).
His extensive experience ranges from the Assistant Chair of Behavioral Science & Psychology, a member of the Wilmington University Faculty Senate, Senior Vice President of Development and Communications for Volunteers of America, to a Certified Professional Coach and years of experience with the National Football League. Please read the full biography of Dr. Lem Burnham to celebrate his accomplishments and dedication to the University.
At Wilmington University, new courses are developed to offer students fresh perspectives and unique subjects. Expanded through the college of arts and sciences, the course “The Black Woman,” is just one example of this pioneering philosophy which sets Wilmington University apart from other institutions.
This year’s NDLW is spotlighting Brittany Lewis, who also happens to be 2014’s Miss Delaware. Professor Lewis studied African American history at Temple University and taught public school before being awarded the title of Miss Delaware last year and joining the faculty of Wilmington University.
