National Distance Learning Week 2016

Each year the Online Learning and Educational Technology Team works together to create a set of activities in celebration of National Distance Learning Week (NDLW). This year NDLW ran from November 7-11, 2016.

NDLW is sponsored by the United States Distance Learning Association. These activities engage our:

Student Activities

  1. Favorite Online Instructor
    Prize: Two students will be picked at random to receive a $25 Visa Gift Card. Winner will be announced on Monday, November 14, 2016.
    Entry details: Complete this entry form.
    Activity description: Do you have a favorite instructor? Let us know by providing your input on a simple form.  It will only take a few moments and you can make someone's day!
    Winners! Thank you to all that participated in the NDLW favorite instructor contest. We have randomly chosen two winners: Please join me in congratulating Toni D., and Lorraine C. We will be sending your gift cards next week.

    You all were so appreciative and complimentary about your favorite instructor and we will share these comments with the instructors and program chairs!

  2. Goose Chase!     Goosechase icon
    Prize: One student will win a tablet for first place! Other prizes, including gift cards and WilmU sportswear, will be available for second and third place. Winners will be announced on Monday, November 14, 2016.
    Entry details: Learn how to participate here.
    Activity description: Win a tablet and other prizes with our Online Scavenger Hunt with the Online Student Navigators!  Faculty can also compete against students to see who has the most WilmU spirit (however, only students can win the prize)! Goose Chase can be played throughout the week with new missions added daily! All student participants will be entered in to win a $25 gift card, so make haste, join Goose Chase!
    Winners! Congratulations to Janelle C. for winning first place! Angelica L. won second and Cheri G. came in third! Great job everyone! This event had a lot more participants than we thought! We will try to get some of the awesome pictures posted on this website. Thanks!

  3. Student Webinar- How to use Blogs, Wikis, Journals, Groups and How to Check Grades
    Registration details:

You can attend an online webinar about key features that students constantly use in Blackboard.  See how to use these items in an on-screen demonstration. This webinar was held on Monday, November 7th at 2:00 p.m. (EST).

  4. COEL Online Info Session
    Prize: Students who register and attend this information session will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card!
    Entry details: The application fee will also be waived for new applicants at this session.
    Activity description: The College of Online and Experiential Learning (COEL) connects the resources of online and experiential learning and assessment to provide additional opportunities for students to earn academic credits. Earn credits through prior learning, work experiences, and other forms of learning that are aligned with your degree program.   1. Introducing OLET Live!
    We went LIVE! on Monday, November 7th at noon (EST) via our Facebook group. Join us again for a new way to learn, OLET Live! Designed to be more engaging, faculty and staff can tune in for a variety of topics. Think of it like a quick lunch break talk show! Kelly Cheeseman won a $25 Amazon gift card!

  2. Gamification Webinar
    Stop the snoring! Make class less boring! Attend this webinar to learn how you can gamify your class. It was held on November 8th at 12 noon (EST). Carol McGuinness won a $25 Amazon gift card! Watch the captioned recording below.

  3. Kaltura In-Video Quizzing
    Ensure that students are engaging with your content by using Kaltura's In-Video Quizzing tool. This 30-minute webinar will teach you how to create quizzes right in your videos in Blackboard! It was held on November 10th at 11:00 a.m. One lucky participant will win a $25 gift card!

  4. VoiceThread
    Want to make your online discussion boards more exciting? Bring in some interactive components using VoiceThread. Spark student creativity and engagement! Mary Nickerson won a $25 Amazon gift card! This workshop was held on November 10th at 2:00 p.m. (EST). 

  5. Try out VoiceThread Now!
    VoiceThread is a tool to create interactive, multimedia, threaded, asynchronous discussions integrated into Blackboard Learn courses. Click here to view and engage with this new tool. Cynthia Chestnut won an Amazon gift card!
