Turn Data Into Insight and Opportunity

Organizations across sectors continue to seek professionals who can transform data into meaningful insights to guide data-informed decision making. WilmU’s M.S. in Data Science program prepares graduates for opportunities in fields such as data science, business intelligence, data analytics, healthcare analytics, life sciences, cybersecurity, finance, technology, and operations management.

The program's interdisciplinary approach helps students understand how data science supports organizational strategy, operational efficiency, biotechnology research, pharmaceutical drug discovery, and innovation in today's evolving workplace.

Build a Strong Foundation in Data Science

Combining applied statistics, computer science, and mathematics, the graduate Data Science curriculum introduces students to key areas including data analytics, predictive modeling, artificial intelligence, and machine learning while emphasizing both theoretical understanding and practical problem-solving. Students gain the technical and mathematical skills needed to analyze complex data and support data-driven decision-making.

Develop Practical Skills Using Industry-Standard Tools

Students gain hands-on experience working with large data sets, cloud-based platforms and industry-relevant technologies used in modern data science practice. Coursework emphasizes practical application in areas such as algorithms, data mining, data visualization, and machine learning techniques, including dedicated study in cloud-based machine learning environments. Students also strengthen their ability to communicate insights effectively and translate complex data into actionable strategies across a variety of industries.

Personalize Your Studies With a Choice of Concentration

Students have three options to align their data science master’s degree with their professional goals. The traditional track (30 credits) allows students to tailor their studies via a choice of elective courses across multiple areas. The Business Analytics Concentration (36 credits) features advanced coursework in business problem-solving, forecasting, optimization, and simulation. The Computational Biology Concentration (39 credits) features advanced coursework in bioinformatics, advanced genomics, machine learning as applied to biology including protein folding, and computational approaches to solving an array of biological questions.

The traditional track and Business Analytics Concentration versions of the program culminate in a capstone case study course or internship, in which students integrate their learning by solving real-world problems. The Computational Biology Concentration culminates with a two-semester capstone in which students develop a research proposal in the first semester and implement the research project in the second semester.
