Wimba Pronto

What is it?

Wimba Pronto is an instant messaging and collaboration system specifically designed to advance and promote learning. It enables registered users to instantly connect with classmates and instructors by working with Blackboard to automatically populate a list of that user's courses and classmates. Use it to whiteboard with study groups, ask an instructor a question or video chat with classmates or colleagues. Wimba Pronto includes advanced features such as video chat, application sharing, and a robust whiteboard, which allow everyone at your institution to collaborate and communicate quickly and easily.

When is it used?

Educators and students use this in the online classroom environment.

How can I use it?

  1. Login to Blackboard.
  2. Click on one of your courses.
  3. Under the Tools menu, click Communication.
  4. Scroll down and click the Wimba Pronto link.
  5. Follow the directions on the sign up page. Once complete, you can use Wimba Pronto at any time.

System Requirements

The minimum system requirements for Wimba Pronto are as follows:

  • Windows XP+ or Mac OS 10.4+
  • 128 MB RAM (256 MB recommended)
  • An Internet connection at 56 kbps or higher
  • Sound Card (for Audio Calling)
  • Speakers and Microphone for Audio Calling (USB headset with integrated microphone recommended)
